I took IE1072 in fall 2021 (year of 2021-'22). One advantage of the course was the breadth of the material covered. We learnt about several topics and not just about one or two. Yet, the disorganized way and jumping from one topic to the other and back confused me (for instance, there was a mention about the theory of 'relations', e.g. 'aRb' means that a relates to b. Why did we need this?). Dr Amin Rahimian seems to have quite a particular attitude to some groups of students: he asked me if I was American when I visited his office hours to ask questions, and while I was standing in the office doorstep, he made comments about me not putting enough effort like my 'foreign' peers. He then slammed the door right in front of me. I didn't say anything relevant to this in order to irritate him. No question I asked could predict or justify this angry action. I find this question about being 'American' to be discriminating and insulting. Why it matters if I am American? Answering questions during office hours should be done for all students. Initially I was afraid of how this affects my studies and I didn't report it to 'SHARE' at Pitt and to the state office for the Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Yet two undergraduate students of his engineering class recently described to me that they received an attitude more insulting than the above. I hope they find the strength to speak. Now, I am thinking to report, using my name and the exact day that this happened to me. Since Dr Amin Rahimian cannot understand why his attitude is discriminating, I am expecting an official to see my report and stop him. If I am called to the school after my report, I will state the story above as it happened. About the course, when I was asking Dr Rahimian questions, he didn't really focus on the answers; he mentioned the value of the textbooks. Also, pretty low voice while lecturing. Like he wants to keep the lecture to himself and avoid sharing the knowledge with us.
